SPLIT EARLOBE REPAIR

Years of wearing heavy earrings can leave you with an enlarged and unsightly ear piercing. Or worse, you can develop a completely split ear lobe (see photos). Sometimes, an earring can get caught on some clothing and one quick pull can leave with you a painful, traumatically torn ear lobe.

Repair of an ear lobe is a minor procedure that is done under local anesthesia. It involves trimming away the skin that has healed within the split, and then suturing the two sides back together to give a symmetric and pleasing appearance. We would recommend a period of several months before re-piercing your ear. This procedure is generally not covered by insurance. Ask your doctor at Suburban Ear, Nose, and Throat about repair of a torn ear lobe.
