A CT scan uses x-ray energy with computer technology to take multiple cross sectional images of the body.

If your doctor has ordered a CT scan with contrast you will need to follow these instructions:

• Do not eat any solids for 3 hours before the scan
• Do not drink liquids for 1 hour before the scan
• If you currently take glucophage, metformin, glucovance or glyburide… do not take any on the day of your scan and for 48 hours after the contrast injection. If your blood sugars are elevated, contact your primary physician.
