Lon J. Petchenik, M.D., a Chicago native, attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine, where he was selected to membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He then completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Eye and Ear Infirmary and affiliated hospitals (Children's Memorial Hospital, Cook County Hospital, West Side Veteran's Administration Hospital, University of Illinois Hospital and Michael Reese Hospital). He joined Suburban ENT Associates in 1993, and is the senior partner. Multiple times Dr. Petchenik has been selected as one of Chicago areas "Top Doctors" by the Castle Connolly Medical Guide and U.S. News & World Report, and was honored to be listed in Chicago Magazine Top Docs 2021, 2022 and 2024 issues.
He has been extensively trained in all sub-specialty aspects of Otolaryngology (ENT). His interests are broad, including Pediatric ENT disorders, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, Head and Neck Cancer, neck masses in children and adults, ear problems including hearing loss and chronic ear disease, salivary gland disorders, complicated nasal airway reconstruction, dysphagia/swallowing and voice disorders. In addition he has an interest in trying to solve complex disorders as they relate to the Head & Neck. He enjoys caring for patients of all ages, from the very young to the elderly.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Medical Association and Illinois State Medical Society, and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
